urbis restaurant, manchester

urbis is a new museum in manchester.

the fully glazed building sits between a road and a new city park, sheltering the space behind it.

at the top of the building there is a high quality restaurant which has spectacular views across the city.

the brief for the fit out of this space was that neutral colours and a simple layout should be used to enhance the diner’s experience of the dramatic building and views from it.

particular attention was paid to the acoustic of the space, with absorbant silk faced panels being used to line one wall to prevent excessive reverberation.
jacquie milham undertook this project whilst at ian simpson architects.
