architectonic the orchard, churton projects

. . . .

the orchard, churton

two houses within a listed, walled garden and three within the orchard adjacent in a cheshire village.

the houses are arranged within a series of natural stone walls which extend out into the landscape to create protected spaces around the buildings.

the houses within the walled garden are classically modernist, and flat roofed, being hidden behind existing trees. the houses in the orchard are given a more barn-like aspect sitting around a courtyard and having pitched roofs.

the rooms within each house are arranged to let in the maximum amount of sunlight at the time they are being used.

jacquie milham completed this project whilst working at ian simpson architects.
