sustainable house, todmorden

date: 8 May 2013

a grade two listed building and former public house on open moorland above todmorden.

we propose to demolish existing unsympathetic extensions, refurbish and insulate the existing vernacular building and extend it to the side and rear.

the rear extension reflects the form of the existing building, but is separated from it by a glazed corridor. the stair rises through a double height space to a gallery which looks down on the dining area below.

the side extension is positioned to take in views across moorland to the south. the volume of the room extends the follow the profile of the roof and a large window at the ridge will flood the room with light.

the house will be heated by a ground source heat pump and water will be obtained from the bore hole.
